In Canada, jurisdictions are divided into federal, provincial, and territorial levels. Below is an overview of Quebec’s legislation and policies regarding lone workers, including work-alone regulations.
Quebec’s Occupational Health and Safety Act has been recently updated and includes Article 322, which requires employers to implement surveillance measures for monitoring employees working in isolation.
Regulation respecting occupational health and safety
322. Work performed in an isolated environment:
When a worker performs a task alone in an isolated environment where it is impossible for him to request assistance, an efficient means of surveillance, whether continuous or intermittent, shall be installed.
O.C. 885-2001, s. 322.
