Ok Alone have introduced Safety Awards, an engaging way to help workers stay safe, while using their lone worker protection system. It allows workers to log their safe practises and compete with colleagues and companies across the world.
At the end of each month, the worker’s usage in the Ok Alone system is collated and reviewed, they are awarded a number of different badges and a safety score is calculated.
Badges are given based on feature usage of the app and other lone worker tools throughout a shift. They can be awarded for GPS activation, Man Down or High Risk use, contacting a supervisor and many other features. As they continue to use Ok Alone, workers can also get awards for reaching milestones such as completing 10 safe shifts or five safe weeks. These show the worker’s commitment to achieving safety goals.
Every month a score out of 100 is awarded to each worker. This takes into account a number of safety factors including missed check ins, location monitoring, shift starts and check in reminders. It is possible to get 100/100, however, any score over 75 is classed as very good.
Based on their score for the month workers are ranked individually, in teams, by company or country against the rest of the global community using the OK Alone lone worker system.
Companies are able to see their worker’s positions within the company ranking and see who is making an effort to create a positive safety culture. Providing regular feedback and positive affirmation of this should increase worker morale and help instil a feeling of ownership for staff who are participating in the program.
Motivating a workforce to think and act safely by encouraging worker involvement and collaboration can be achieved by creating a sense of competitiveness and comradery around the company’s main goal, keeping their people safe.
